Scaleworks is a San Antonio-based private equity firm focused on acquiring and growing B2B software companies. With over $350m in capital raised to date, we target companies with $4m-$20m ARR globally.

I joined as an Advisor to help source and evaluate acquisition opportunities, leveraging my background in M&A and software business models.

The Thesis

The firm operates with a unique approach: acquire profitable, bootstrapped SaaS companies and provide them with the resources, expertise, and capital to accelerate growth without the pressure of traditional PE timelines.

Most founders we talk to have built great businesses but hit a ceiling. They want liquidity, a partner who understands software, and someone who won't destroy what they've built. That's where we come in.

My Role

I focus on the front end of the deal funnel: identifying potential targets, building relationships with founders, and conducting initial assessments. It's a mix of pattern recognition from past deals and genuine curiosity about how different software businesses operate.

The best conversations happen when founders aren't actively looking to sell. That's when you learn what really matters to them.

What I've Learned

Working with the Scaleworks team has reinforced a few things I already believed: the best deals are the ones where both sides feel like they won, and patience in M&A is underrated.

Also, San Antonio breakfast tacos are exceptional.
